hmm... you don't even need to touch textures. I don't- all my textures are low quality, so i don't even bother using them. I just go right ahead to the materials editor.

Using the materials editor (blender has something like this i was told) you can bake different materials onto different meshes. to change the color of a materials, there are various specular/glow/glossiness/etc. like attributes (including transparency) that you should be able to apply. once all of them are baked onto the model, just render it.

textures or models?
I use 3dsmax or gmax for modeling (Either works here, but gmax is substantially clunkier.)

BAM! Finally got it all worked out.

Here's a look at ship number one. It's pretty rough, but it's a start.

I like it. It reminds me of Descent.

Damn, you beat me to texturing something. I've been learning to use Wings3D the past few days, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to put it's files into Blender so I can texture the models.

Yugi,
You'll have to export (use .obj format) from Wings, then import into Blender.
There is a plugin for Blender to read .wings files; but it is broken right now with the current Blender version; until Scorpius gets around to fixing it.

plugin? I just imported to blender, then spend hours furious because I couldn't work out how to apply textures

(hint: there is no "apply" button!)

you can also export as 3ds.. and it'll read it just fine.. even with a skin ( that will read correctly as well ).

Aha! Thank you very much! ^_^ I had a little snag after exporting when I just opened the .obj in Blender, and it started complaining at me, but
Would you be able to tell me what camera angle(s) and light stuff are needed?
Finally, I don't how versed you are in using Wings, but is there any sort of list detailing your previous changes (like 1. Create Sphere, 2. Extrude region x by z. amount).

That is an awesome texture and ship design. I must defeat you!

george moromisato wrote:20 images, each at 18 degrees.

To position the camera and the lights, imagine that the object is at the origin:

The camera is 6 units away and 12 units above the object.

The light source is 3 units to the left (as seen from the camera), 5 units behind and 5 units above the object (Note: treat the light source as being at infinity).
40 rotations would, obviously, be at 9 degrees...
