George, I must really, really, really, compliment you on a job well done in making the universe of transcendence come alive!
With those new encounter things where OTHER ships are experiencing the things the player has experienced ever since .7 and before... and it makes it feel all so much more... immersive. I tried doing this earlier in TX2, but never made it anything like you've managed to do with this. :D

Interestingly enough, with the other ships removing and looting wrecks, I doubt there will be any balance issues of note stemming from this, which is a problem I had back in TX2 (huge numbers of wrecks the player could loot). I haven't found it to be unbalanced at all...

It really is quite fun to encounter a random freighter chased by a viking (And then save it, though of course there's no reward for that yet.. (perhaps if you save freighters from pirates, it boosts your reputation so you can get off the hook if you get called a pirate?)) or a skirmish between illegal miners and anarchists, or a giant free-for-all of smugglers, freighters, anarchists and pirates... It's a lively universe indeed. Thanks George. :)

Thank you--that really means a lot to me!

I always remember that Transcendence would not be nearly as good if it were not for all of the feedback and support that I've gotten from all of you.

TX2, for example, has definitely inspired me and kept the game growing.

Thanks to all!

I would like to see a karma system, even if the effects of it woudn't be obvious. I always do nice things in video games, even though I know the NPCs don't actually exist I still try to keep them alive. It'd be nice to get rewards for being a cosmically nice guy.

Maybe if your shields go down and you've got a good reputation for being nice, other ships will come to help you out in return.

I wonder how hard it would be to mod that in...

Karma systems make for bad balance.

Elaborate?

You're risking your arse and using up fuel & ammo saving those other ships. It's like Korvlov except spread out over the whole game.

The only reason I suggested in some other thread about getting rep-points for saving freighters (specifically freighters) from pirates (specifically pirates) was to address an issues (specifically to address a specific issue) that accidental killing of freighters still ends up fining you (specifically that you get fined, or you have to get really lucky... or you get owned).
Basically it would give you logical leniancy (why would they arrest someone who's been saving freighters from PIRATES all this time on PIRACY?), nothing more.

Since we were talking about the karma system and the killing shot issue with Korolev missions? How bout seeing what percentage of damage the player did. If the player does 90 percent of the damage and a pirate gets the killing shot, it's still your fault. But if the pirates do 90 percent of the damage and you get the killing shot, it's not your fault...
Ofcourse, you'd have to mess with the percentages to get this to work.
