From this ticket: http://wiki.neurohack.com/transcendence/trac/ticket/367

Should it be entirely removed or relegated to a light border-glow?

It's already been pretty well established that it does need to be reworked.

Removed completely. A border glow still risks interfering with the off-screen target indicator and will still be distracting.

Personally, I would go for remove as well.

Remove and/or have warnings on the screen at 50% and 25% condition on an armor segment.

at 25% you get the "hull breach is imminent!" message

We need a wav of a synthetic voice calmly telling you that a hull breach is imminent.

border glow for me.

It would be nice to have some sort of effect going on instead of the flashes. That could replace them.

Perhaps the entire ship armor interface blinks red with BREACH or something of the sort.

Perhaps if it was the armor segments themselves... you know, that actually does make sense; at lower levels of armor, a red color can replace the blue color of segment. Entirely feasible to do and not hard at all!

I was thinking perhaps this could occur for the NPCs as well....

....you won't be able to see which armor segment is about to breach, but the targetted ship's interface flashes red when they are about to blow. Though it would be nice to see which segments in the enemy's armor are damaged and to what percentage....space age combat ships should have this capability, no?

It could some software that could bought in the game. :?:

...edit: sorry, going off topic

:D
I think then you're looking for "VUI"; they already did this with autons in a similar manner; it should not be difficult to do something similar with NPC ships.

Oh yeah, I know, vanilla autons still leave some stuff to be desired... especially late-game. But there are a lot of modders looking to fix that stuff.

[My official policy on TX2 content being made official is: GO FOR IT! :D - likely prophet & alterecco have the same policy for their improved autons mod as well.]

I vote that the flashing be accessible in game so we can turn it off if desired similar to plyClearShowHelpRefuel.

As for enemies and autons showing damage, it might be possible with overlays to display which armor seg is the most damaged and have a visual indicator show that, but that's a topic for another thread :P
