Um... wait a second...
When we first meet the Iocrym mothership, shouldn't we at least TRY to communicate with them (and they with us) before shooting each other to space flotsam?
The conversation could go something like...
- IOCRYM:
Attention human vessel. This Stargate is off limits to members of your race. You must leave this star system now and never return.
HUMAN:
Oh, I don't think so! You've oppresed humanity long enough, you arrogant Iocrym scum! We've evolved far beyond the "complex multicellular life" we were when you first discovered us. We've discovered fire, comedy, and a sense of moral values that makes all the other alien races you've encoutered look like the children of Ayn Rand. So, if you have any sense of philosophy, you'll step aside and let us through the gate.
IOCRYM:
It is true that you have evolved.... but evolution alone is not enough. To put it simply: you have not yet attained suffient power to get through this gate. Rather, WE have the power.... the power to stop you and keep you quaranteened for as long as we like. Don't forget that our alien technology is quite advanced, and in comparison, your techology is like one of our child's playtoys. HAHAHAHA! To challenge our large, impressive looking ship with your primitive little vessel would be foolishness. And we urge you, for your own safety, to not try it.
HUMAN:
That's the last straw, you arrogant M*****F******! No one underestimates the power of humanity! This "little ship" is about to turn your "impressive" vessel to an impressive pile of scrap metal! PREPARE TO EAT ANTIMATTER, B******!
