I would like to propose that all missiles be tweaked to use the acceleration attribute. They're self propelled, hence the vapor trail, right? It would make it more realistic, and give a reason for firing missiles from farther away. I don't know if it would make them harder to shoot down with an ICX or not, but that could make things interesting too.

Plus, it would just look really cool. :P

Plus i could try an implement it into a railgun!!! i've allready got one made too!! that would be awsome... it would also give another incentive sorta..to use missiles..as i still don't use them at all. :D

It'd make it hard to aim.
I played with them for a while, and when you fire an accelerating projectile sideways, it curves in the direction you're travelling. While this is really useful sometimes, it's mostly just annoying. While strafing a base, the missiles hit in one spot and conventional weapons hit elsewhere. Now, of course less acceleration produces a smaller effect, but it's still there.

I actually support this idea, I'm just pointing this out.

they shouldn't CURVE the way your travelling when you fire them... i could see drifting at the same rate of speed you were traveling at when launching them...maybe it should only work for guided missiles?

They don't actually curve per se. You are travelling, say speed 20 in a direction relative left to you. The missile is launched, travelling speed 50 in front of you. It works best if we think of the two axes seperately. Now the missile starts to accelerate away from you on the front-back axis (remember you are still travelling "left") and it also accelerates on the leftright axis. The missile is now going faster than you on the left-right axis, say, speed 30. This makes it pass you and appear to curve.

I don't know how the game handles this, but this is the effect. The best way for you to see this, rather than read my convoluted description, is add a farily fast-firing accelerating weapon and play with it.
